Forever Friends

January 22, 2019

Hi there! Welcome back to OumaCrafts! If this is your first time visiting, thank you so much for stopping by. I hope that you find something that will inspire you to create and spread kindness through handmade crafts and that you will visit again.

Today’s project is centered around friendship. I am an introvert by nature. I love people, but to be honest I do sometimes suffer from anxiety in public settings even when I am with people that I am familiar with. That feeling of anxiety sometimes, well a lot of times causes me to shy away from get together’s or going out. Having said that, I very much appreciate the friendships that I have developed over the years. I appreciate the fact that these lovely souls – really get me (I am an odd bird). I appreciate the fact that no matter if we speak/see each other every day or every few months our bond remains unchanged. That means the world to me and I love them all for that. When I think about these friendships I think about warmth and light and comfort. Those are all things that I feel when I see the color yellow. Yellow is warmth, light, comfort and a myriad of other things. That is what inspired me to design this card. A special note to all of my friends, new and old. You will always be in my heart.

Let’s Dive In.

This blog contains paid advertising banners and affiliate links. Banners and affiliate links may be used at no additional cost to you. This means I get paid a small commission when you shop with a company using a link I provide. I am not paid by any company to use their products (all products used in my posts have been purchased – by me) and should this ever happen, I will disclose that in a specific post.

I started this card (like most) by cutting a piece of Neenah Classic Crest 110 lb card stock down to a single 4 1/4 in x 5 1/2 in panel. The panel was placed inside of a Swiss Dots Embossing Folder and ran through my Cuttlebug.

After embossing, I attached the panel to the front of a top folding card with the same dimensions.

I love the subtle texture and dimension that the embossing leaves.

Next, I used my Tim Holtz paper trimmer to trim down a 4 1/4 in x 5 1/2 in piece of Neenah Classic Crest 110lb to 3 3/4 in x by 5 1/4 in. I chose a lovely piece of yellow patterned paper from the Altenew Reflection Paper pack, trimmed it to 1/2 in x 5 1/4 in and adhered it using Gina K connect glue. I also added a strip of washi tape for contrast.

I die cut a piece of Neenah Classic Crest 110 lb card stock using my Cuttlebug and cut two hearts using Hero Arts Nesting Hearts Infinity Dies.

I used a mini ink blending tool to add color to both hearts using differing amounts of pressure to create color variation.

Under normal circumstances I would use a magnet to secure paper. However, due to the size of the heart and sentiment I chose to use Purple Tape instead.

This beautiful sentiment was taken from the Penny Black – from the heart stamp set. I stamped the sentiment using Altenew Permanent Black ink the embossed with Ranger Clear Embossing powder.

Check out the shine that the clear embossing powder gives. I LOVE IT!!

Foam Tape was added to the back of the panel which was then attached to the top folding card.

I placed the heart with the stamped sentiment on top the larger one. The combined hearts were then attached to the front of the card. Gold sequins were added to give the card a small touch of shine.

For this project I decided to add an envelope. I used the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch. This tool makes envelope creation a snap!

Here is the finished card and envelope.

I really enjoyed making this card. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you come back real soon.

As always, don’t forget to spread kindness. – Ouma

  1. GREAT step-by-step photos! Love the use of yellow and stripes, Takisha! Thanks so much for entering your beautiful work in Altenew AECP assignment Gallery. Beautiful colors and design. Well done!

  2. This card rocks! What rocks, even more, is your explanation and photo-tutorial. Please make sure that the next time, Altenew products are the focus of your project or I will have to ask you to re-submit and it will be sad because I really enjoyed your post.
