A Simple Card For Mom

May 12, 2019

Today is Sunday May 12th and it is MOTHER’S DAY!!

Today, I am focusing on a card that I made for my own mother. Very simple and easy to duplicate. My mom is lives in a different state so I FaceTimed her very early this morning (she got her card and gifts already). The rest of my day will be split working and spending time with my son daughter and grandson. When my children were growing up they would always ask me what I wanted. I would always reply “peace and tranquility”. I would get it for maybe five minutes and then normalcy would quickly return (LOL).

I know that this day means a lot of different things to different people. Some still have their moms, some are separated by many miles and some no longer have their moms with them. Whatever your situation may be, I wish you love and peace. BIG HUGS to you all!!

The focal point of this card is the heart I created using the Floral Heart Frame Die from Altenew. This die is absolutely gorgeous. So much detail.

I started out with a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock cut to 4 1/4 in x 5 1/2 in. I initially thought about using the die the normal way; placing it on top of the card and running it through a die cut machine, but then I had an idea. Why not try something different and use hot foil? I pulled out my die cut machine, hot foil machine and foil.

Following the instructions that come with the hot foil machine, I trimmed the foil, placed the paper, foil and die onto the machine and then when ready I ran it through the die cut machine. The result was this beautiful foiled heart.

Before trimming an 1/8 inch off of each of the four sides of the card, I stamped Happy Mother’s Day on the front of the card and I Love You on the inside using black permanent ink.

Next, I cut a piece of purple ribbon and wrapped it around the card panel. After making sure that I was happy with the placement I used washi tape to secure the ribbon. Foam tape was then added to the back of the panel.

The heart panel was placed on the front of a top folding notecard. The ribbon was then tied and secured to the front with strong adhesive.

Voila! Here is the finished card. Simple and elegant and made just for MY MOTHER.

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by. I hope that you have seen something here that inspires you. Happy Mother’s Day and as always, don’t forget to spread kindness! – Ouma
