Backgrounds, Distractions & Family Love

June 19, 2019

Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by. Yesterday was certainly an interesting day. I mean, it was one of those days that I had a firm plan of attack with a list of what I wanted to get done but nothing went quite right type of days.

After looking through all of my stamping supplies (still amazed at how quickly I have amassed such a large collection) I FINALLY decided on a design/layout for a card that I wanted to make. I got everything ready, set my camera up to record and got busy. Everything was going fine until I cut out my “feature” panel and it came out smudged (because of left over ink on my cutting plate)!!! UGH talk about being a little frustrated but I said no worries I’ll just grab my handy sand eraser and all will be fine. Well…..I couldn’t find it. I looked HIGH and LOW. Just when I started to give up I remembered that it was in my purse (insert forehead slap). So back to recording right? WRONG!! Insert real life distractions including my grandson (he’s 18 months old) running in and out of my work space with his basketball (B-Ball as he calls it), then hiding under my legs while his mom chased him (his giggle is so precious) and then my son edging and mowing my lawn. Needless to say by this time I was frazzled and just gave up on recording – BUT I still ended up with a pretty nice (I think) finished product.

With all that being said, apologies if this post is a bit disjointed but….life can be disjointed and is full of twists and turns. We still have to roll with the punches and keep moving – so here we go!!

I decided to use the Pattern Play Circle Stamp from Altenew to create a card after participating in the Background Magic: Background Stamps with Creativity class that is offered through Altenew Academy.

The design (and assembly) itself is pretty simple, but I think very beautiful. It starts with the image being stamped on to a piece of Neenah Classic Crest card stock with Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink. After stamping the image, I added lines (for contrast) to some of the circle images using a Mono Drawing Pen size 03.

The “Surround yourself with people who love you” sentiment from the set was also stamped onto Neenah Classic Crest card stock with Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink.

I added color to some of the overlapping circles with the Ruby Red marker from the the Altenew Red Cosmos artist marker set.

Foam tape was added to the back of the card panel and the sentiment strips. Prior to to placing the panel onto the top folding note card, I cut a piece of ribbon that I found in my ribbon/string stash and wrapped it around the bottom of the card. Random thought – how awesome is it that I had red circular ribbon in my stash!!!

After the panel was placed on top of the notecard, the sentiment strips and hearts were added. The final touch was to add a tiny bit of shimmer using a clear glitter brush.

Although this project ended without a video (much to my dismay), I am still quite pleased with how it turned it. It also highlights (for me at least) that as annoying as distractions and interruptions and unexpected happenings can be, I wouldn’t have things any other way. Just hearing my grandson laugh and seeing him smile while trying to hide and play with his B-Ball are so worth it. After all I was surrounded by people who love me and at the end of the day, THAT is all that matters.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog (and read my rant). I hope you have a beautiful day and as always, don’t forget to spread kindness. – Ouma

  1. Love the simplicity of this card! Well design and execution! I am so glad that you enter your beautiful work in Altenew AECP assignment Gallery. Awesome details and design! Super work!

  2. I can totally relate to your ordeal! I am glad you were still able to make such a fantaulous card in the end! This is really a lovely design. I like the tiny details and pops of red.
Thank you for entering your gorgeous work to the AECP assignment gallery. Well done!

  3. And here I thought I was the ONLY one that got interrupted UMPTEEN times a day when I’m making cards! Good to read that you ALSO have interruptions – FUN ones some – SOME not so fun – like the toilet fittings were leaking here yesterday! ICKO!

    1. They always seem to happen when I’m at my highest point of concentration!! I don’t have doors in my craft space so it’s quite easy to get distracted. Honestly though, I wouldn’t trade those sweet distractions for anything.

I hope you were able to get your fittings fixed. Happy card making!
